Hello! Maggie the guinea pig here, I’m sorry that you haven’t seen me for a while.  A carrot can always tempt me out!  Never fear, today I’m back with a review of Lilly Singh’s ‘How to be a Bawse‘.

Lilly is a Canadian Youtuber with 12 million subscribers, and she’s known to her legions of fans as Superwoman.  We don’t often get excited about Youtuber books, but my mum knew she’d make an exception for Lilly.  Mum is a big fan of Superwoman and this book seemed a little different to the baking, beauty or biographical offerings of other Youtubers.  We both had high hopes for it.

Let me begin by saying, this book is beautiful.  The photography is amazing and the camera just adores Lilly. But, you may be wondering what a bawse is?  Lilly defines it as a “person who exudes confidence, reaches goals, gets hurt efficiently, and smiles genuinely because they’ve fought through it all and made it out the other side”.  Hmm, I think I invented that, not Lilly…

Lilly walks us through the process of becoming a bawse, chapter by chapter, and with a few personal anecdotes along the way.  It’s really accessible and chapters aren’t that long, so you can pick it up and put it into practice with ease.

If you’re looking to become more confident, this book is your life manual.  If you’re at a low ebb and want to get back on your feet, this book is most definitely for you.

Or, you could save yourselves the money and ask me instead, because I could have taught Lilly everything she knows… Right then, I’m off for a nap, being a bawse is a lot of work you know! Are you a fan of Lilly’s?

  • I must admit that I have never watched Lilly’s YouTube channel, but from your description of this book, it sounds like she’s a total babe, oozing confidence and girl power! Maggie always does a fantastic job with her reviews, I can’t wait for the next one!

Hehe I think I’ll employ Maggie as my life guru / coach on how to be more confident, sounds like she’s got that nailed! 😉

Thanks for the review, Maggie, I don’t watch many Youtubers but I like the sound of the photography in this so I’ll have to give it a wee once over next time I’m in a bookshop!

  • Lilly is totally worth checking out! Maggie’s preparing the next one as I type!

  • Maggie would totally be up for that! We really loved the photography, no question.

Somehow I’ve never heard of her, I’m going to have a little nose on YouTube now. I always wonder with books like this whether they’re actually worth it. A lot of that stuff has probably already been said, so I think it’s the life experiences and stories that can really make or break books like that.

Yay, hey Maggie!! Glad to have you back. She’s so wise, I love it. I’ve never heard of Lilly before to be honest, but she sounds like my kinda person! I think I might check out her YouTube channel, and then maybe give her book a go.

  • I don’t relate to many big Youtubers, but Lilly is one who I’d love to chat with. Some of her personal anecdotes in the book are great.

  • Definitely hope you enjoyed checking Lilly out!

  • So glad to find another Superwoman fan! I think Maggie should write an advice post… one-to-one advice will cost you many carrots!
